A superb player at Sequoia and San Jose State, his teams won a dozen lightweight championships when those categories were contested, and captured the varsity title in 1967. A key policy official among the region’s coaches for several years, he coached golf, girls’ softball and volleyball at Sequoia, and mentored hundreds of area youngsters in city recreation programs and as a youth baseball volunteer for some three decades.
