If any Sequoia grad deserves the title “Mr. Baseball”, it’s this strong-armed catcher and two-time all-leaguer who was a member of frosh-soph league champions in 1947 and varsity titlists in ’49. A two-time varsity captain, he played collegiate ball at College of San Mateo and San Jose State, was a member of a powerhouse team with the Quantico Marines (52-9), and with the Pacific Ocean champions at Pearl Harbor. Poole was the face of Woodside High baseball during 25 years as a coach, and also coached Wildcat football, soccer and cross-country. His professional baseball credentials are astounding. He served 32 years as a major league scout (18 with the Phillies and 14 with the Astros), owns a World Series ring and three National League championship rings. Presently he is West Coast senior advisor for the Astros.
